Responsibilities include identifying strong and weak hives; making nucleus colonies to remove weak genes and propagate strong genetics; adding honey boxes; assessing queen vigor and hive health; monitoring and treating bees for Varroa destructor; maintaining bee yards; adding and removing equipment according to the season and hive productivity; building and maintaining bee equipment; driving work vehicles to bee yards, which are on employer far m property; mowing and upkeep of bee yards (including electric fencing); maintenance of roads to access to apiaries. The Apiary Manager must have deep experience working with honey bees and an eagerness to learn and implement beekeeping practices better suited to honey bee biology.
